Street Scene I Know Well
When going to my window and looking out on the street and into the distance I can see the green and purple trees sway in the wind and the leaves fall to the ground. Over in the distance you can see the cars driving on the highway and it looks like they are moving as slow as can be and you wonder where they might be going. The children are playing so peacefully on the field across the street and the sounds of laughter fill the air. Every few minutes a car drives by and there sometimes is a rumble through the house with the noise of the engine. If you close your eyes and listen you can hear the sound of quietness and peace. On the corner there you will find a small farm with the smell and sound of sheep. The hills surrounding our street look so green and beautiful to the point where they don’t look real. Sometimes I want to climb to the top and see what it would be like to view my home from a different angle.
The Monument and the Bungalow
One thing I found interesting about the essay is the fact that he teaches you a new way to look at the landscapes around you that make up this world. When we move through our surroundings there are many times we never take a minute to look and take everything in. This new way of learning is exciting to me because I am not a very visual person and now I can practice on how to become one. I think we are so busy with our daily lives and schedules that not a lot of people take the time to look at what’s around them. I would like to learn more on how to read landscapes, what to look for and the importance of each aspect.
The first percept is called cultivating the habit of attention which is where the students need to develop and cultivate the habit of using their eyes and asking nonjudgmental questions about familiar, commonplace things. His first job was to teach the students how to read landscape, to help them develop thoughtful looking and asking questions about what they see in the ordinary landscape they inhabit.
The second percept is called acquiring vocabulary because if students are going to look at the elements of a landscape they have to have the vocabulary that allows them to describe things accurately. One important term used is alluvial fan which is where the person knows what the feature looks like, how it came to be, what it’s made of, and how the feature relates to the surrounding elements in the landscape.
Overall I enjoyed reading this essay because as a person in this world I have never taken the time to look at my surroundings and to take the time to observe what each element means. Yeah there is a lot you can take in about the world and I am all about learning more. There are more than just trees, water and streets; it’s about the way you perceive all of it.

My Introduction
Hi my name is Debbie and I have a two in a half year old daughter named Isabella. She is the love of my life along with my husband Keith of almost three years. Currently I work as a Program Manager for a toddler classroom in Novato. My daughter is in my classroom which has it's good and bad days but at least I can see her every day. We live in Petaluma and have been here for three years. My interests are scrapbooking, wakeboarding and spending time with family and friends. Right now my major interest is trying to relax. We just added a new edition to our family and she is a ten week old black lab named Luna. My future goal is to get my AA in Child Development and open my own day care. I am very class to graduating and hope to be there next year. I am slowly taking my general education classes since things were put on hold when I had my daughter. I hope to meet everyone and learn more about English. The one main area I need help on in this course is essays. Good luck to you all and I look forward to reading all your blogs.
